AC cars is a British specialist automobile manufacturer, and one of the oldest independent car makers founded in Britain. In 1961, American automotive designer Carroll Shelby contacted AC asking them if they would build him a car modified to accept a V8 engine. Shelby went to Chevrolet to see if they would provide him with engines, but Chevrolet declined so no competition was added to the Corvette. However, Ford wanted a car that could compete with the Corvette because they didn't have any. And so, Ford provided Shelby with a small-block V8 tuned for high performance.
